Federal Emergency Management Agency
Emergency Education NETwork (EENET)
The Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA), now an organization under
the Department of Homeland Security, awarded CESSI a blanket purchase agreement to provide videoconferencing
and production support to FEMA’s Emergency Education NETwork
(EENET). EENET is a one-way video, two-way audio,
and point-to-multi-point, satellite distributed
network. The core network comprises State and local
emergency management; fire and EMS; federal and military;
while the secondary audience is schools
and universities, businesses and industry, cable providers
and the general public. The core audience is estimated
at over 50,000 and the addition
of the cable industry gives the EENET the potentially
larger audience of more than 31,000,000 viewers.
Under
this contract, the EENET plans to produce monthly
broadcasts, provide public information and specific
training for the various EENET viewing audiences,
produce training segments to be used
by state and local trainers, provide up-to-date information
to viewers, provide interactive forums for discussion
and implementation of public
policy issues, and provide cost-effective, quality
programming.
The CESSI team provides a combination
of programming, production, and subject matter expertise
as required to meet task requirements. Current tasks include
providing real-time, captioning services for
scheduled EENET broadcasts and conducting a Section 508 assessment
of video products. The assessment of video products
will result in recommendations for incorporating
captioning and audio description in video products
as required under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation
Act.
