Accessible Conference Management
CESSI performs a wide
range of technical and support activities for NIDRR
including event planning and conference management.
CESSI staff members have
supported a variety of meetings for NIDRR. Examples
include:
- Annual meeting of the Switzer Fellows
- Annual meeting of Rehabilitation Engineering Research
Center grantees
- Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training grantees
- Section 21 Capacity-Building grantees
- Employment-related grantees
- International Disability Studies Conference
- State-of-the-Art Conference on Wayfinding
- Regular Program Review meetings
Every NIDRR meeting must be accessible for individuals
with disabilities. CESSI
is expert in securing physically accessible facilities,
providing alternative formats for print materials, and
arranging appropriate on-site accommodations such as
sign language interpreters and readers. In addition,
CESSI arranges for personal
assistance and technological support services. Understanding
accessibility issues and the ability to apply this knowledge
to meet individual needs has led to CESSI's
continued success in conference management in the disability
arena.
CESSI also provides standard
conference management support including: developing
program content and structure; conducting outreach to
potential attendees; negotiating hotel contracts; arranging
travel and hotel for participants;
arranging proper audiovisual equipment, including
Webcasting and teleconferencing; arranging for hospitality;
facilitating the smooth functioning of the meetings;
and completing post conference follow-up. Follow-up
typically includes production of a proceedings document.
