About this Site
The CESSI website is accessible.
We follow the Rehabilitation Act's
Section 508 standards developed by the Access
Board. Also, we follow standards set by the World
Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to ensure that this
site is accessible by our visitors.
Accessibility Features include:
- Go to Content Links. The site includes an
invisible "skip navigation links" button
in the top of the header that allows site visitors
who are using screen readers to jump directly to the
central content of the page and bypass repetitive
navigation information.
- Text Links. All links that are represented
with graphic files (such as those on the left of the
screen) are also provided in text format. This increases
visibility for people who invert the color scheme
use screen enlargers.
- Alt tags and long descriptions. The graphics
and photos on the site include a text equivalent.
When screen readers encounter a graphic image, they
read the alt tag to the user, which provides a richer
experience and allows the user to better understand
the photograph or picture. When the graphic conveys
more information, a link in the code leads to a page
with the longer description.
- Table headers. If a table conveys data, the
code includes headers and summaries.
- Scripts for clips. Audio and video files
are presented with alternative formats and closed
captioning.
- Color contrast. Background and foreground
color combinations are chosen for maximum contrast.
- Site map. Site maps make browsing the site
easier.
In addition to taking these simple measures to increase
accessibility, we tested this site using the common
PC reader JAWS®
by Freedom Scientific, UseableNet's
508 Accessibility Suite, the web-based accessibility
analysis tool Bobby,
and the W3C
HTML Validation Services.
